Directorate
of Public Grievances (DPG)
| Directorate of Public Grievances (DPG), equipped with powers
to ensure redress of citizens' grievances relating to certain Central Government
Departments/Organizations having wide public interface, was set up within the Cabinet
Secretariat in 1988. DPG is headed by an officer of the rank of Secretary to
Government of India. |
| Interested individuals, after
having exhausted the Departmental or Organizational grievance redress remedies, may
approach DPG indicating :- |
|
|
- Grounds for the grievance along with supporting documents like
copies of decisions, letters written with proof of receipt, etc. The complainants
identity and complete postal address should be given. Email address and telephone number
should be provided, if available, and
|
|
|
- Whether an appeal has been filed before the concerned
Department/Organization or before any Court, Tribunal or Consumer Forum.
|
|
If
DPG is prima facie satisfied that the matter has not been dealt by the concerned
Department/Organization in a fair and objective manner or has been unduly delayed, it
shall take up the grievance for investigation. The matter would then be examined in
consultation with the concerned Department/Organization, by calling for comments/reports
with the aim of ensuring a fair decision. In appropriate cases, DPG may examine the
concerned file, recommend resolution of a grievance in a particular manner or refer a case
for vigilance or disciplinary action, as the case may be. |
| Individuals do not
have to hire any advocate or lawyer. DPG does not charge any type of fee. |
