RELIANCE Telecom's GSM-based (global system for mobile communications) cellular subscribers in Himachal Pradesh are the most satisfied customers, according to a report on quality of service released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Airtel's subscribers in Punjab take the second spot with 94.4 percent of users saying that they were happy with the service.

The third spot is taken by Hutch whose 94.1 per cent subscribers in Haryana are satisfied with the services. The study conducted by the Indian Market Research Bureau for TRAI has revealed that 93.7 per cent of Airtel's subscribers in Haryana are happy with the services. Airtel has the largest subscriber base in the GSM market.

Subscribers who are least happy are those of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in Jammu and Kashmir, where only 43.4 percent of users said they were happy with the services. Reliance's services in the North-East is also among the worst ones, with just 50 per cent of the users satisfied.

Among the CDMA-based (code division multiple access) operators, Tata Teleservices subscribers in Gujarat are the most satisfied, with 93.3 per cent of the users voting in favour of the operator. Himachal Futuristics Communications Ltd's (HFCL) subscribers in Punjab are the second most satisfied, with 92.8 per cent of the users saying that they were happy with the services.

Reliance is in the third spot. The least satisfied are Tata Teleservices' Delhi subscribers and Shyam Telecom's subscribers in Rajasthan.

In the fixed line telephony segment, Tata Teleservices has taken the top slot in overall customer satisfaction. Ninety-five per cent of Tata's subscribers in Gujarat said that they were happy with the service. The State-owned BSNL has taken the number two slot, with 94 per cent in Gujarat expressing satisfaction.

Overall, TRAI has said that customer satisfaction in most of the circles across the country has deteriorated as compared to the last quarter, except in the Southern region, which has not registered any change. The maximum decrease is registered in the Western (from 90 per cent to 85 per cent) and Northern (from 85 per cent to 80 per cent) regions. The Eastern region has the highest number of dissatisfied subscribers (72 per cent).
